Closer Looking Images: A Bit of Fun with the X-Pro1 and X-Pro2 Part Three

Continuing the blog serialisation of my popular X-Pro Series lust/hate/love story:

Part 118: Closer Looking Images: A Bit of Fun with the X-Pro1 and X-Pro2 Part Three

So last week I shared and compared a series of images shot with both X-Pro1 and X-Pro2 cameras. I also showed you what hacking the X-Pro2 RAF (so that the editing software thinks it’s from an X-Pro1) does to the resultant image.

So for this week, I’m going to show you the exact same set of images ALL from the X-Pro2 and ALL with the same edits (within their pairs, not as each other) but with the ONLY difference being the ‘RAF Hack’

This way you’ll get an exact idea of what exactly the RAF hack does

I can’t stress enough these pairs of X-Pro2 files have had exactly the same edits, copy/paste exactly the same edits

There is no other difference between them except that in one RAF the editing software thinks it’s from an X-Pro1 and the other it (correctly) knows that it’s from an X-Pro2

As ever: whenever you play this game it’s win some/lose some and that’s before we factor in your various personal preferences with how an image should look

But as I said last time:

These days I depending on what look I want from the files tend to ‘RAF Hack’ my X-Pro2 files, it gives me a starting point that cuts out some of the work I do carte blanche with my X-Pro2 files, and I can always add a cooler, darker look with the WB, contrast and/or black sliders if I need it Update October 3rd 2018. I think Capture One Express ends the need for me to do this, but we’ll see…
