Continuing the blog serialisation of my popular X-Pro Series lust/hate/love story:

Part 142: SOOC and Capture One Express

You nearly didn’t get an article this week!

In fact after reading this, you might think that you didn’t 😀

I’ve been a little ill this week, and busy with my Portuguese class. (Remember folks, I wrote this some weeks ago, all well again now and Portuguese class taken and failed!)

My class today was cancelled… but not before I’d left the house to attend it (I really need to check my email more frequently)

It’s a horrible cold grey day. I had the X-Pro2 with me, so I decided to take the long route home and fire off some snaps on my way.

I decided to use Fujifilm X Studio to process the RAFs into SOOC, then run the same RAFs through Capture One Express (C1E) and edit them how I normally would… (which for snaps like this means however I’m feeling at the time)

I don’t really know my way around Fujifilm X Studio (and I’m pretty new to C1E truth be told), so this is about as scientific as star signs…..

……however it is what it is, so let’s take a look.

Now for me at least, without exception, I prefer the edited in C1E images.

But I’m quite taken with the SOOC shots (which are Velvia), I like the bite of the C1E edits more, but in many ways the colours of the SOOC images have charm. I suspect with practice and trial + error I could close this gap quite a lot (my hunch is that I need to use more shadow tone to get greater contrast in there)

An awful lot is said about the power of Fujifilm’s SOOC jpegs and their colour science… and I can see why!
