Part 135: Fujifilm Capture One Express Old Edits Vs New
Now a few weeks ago I wrote an article The X-Pro2 and Colour Options in which I edited the same three X-Pro2 images in different ways
Of course Capture One Express (C1E) wasn’t available back then… So I decided that I’d revisit those same three shots, but this time I’d use C1E and compare the results to what I had already done.
This isn’t quite as throwaway as it sounds… The app I used for those edits (SilkyPix Pro v8) I know pretty well and C1E is very new to me.
I was curious to see how the look of the photos would compare…
It’s also a little bit of a blind test.. as I’ve didn’t look at the original edits before revisiting the files, I’ve simply coped the hosting code out of my original web page.
So let’s see how they compare.
That original article, started off with the three images as I’d PP’d them to look how I wanted in SilkyPix Pro
But before we get to that, the original article (linked above) was more than what I liked and wanted it was also about modifying the Fujifilm Film Sims (in this case Classic Chrome) to get different colours, these images are below and now we can compare them to the same pictures edited in C1E

Now which is better is such a subjective thing, and it’s not like I’m letting you pixel peep them 🙂 If you’re a die hard CC fan, then you’ll probably enjoy the muted colours more…
But like I said, that original article, started off with the three images as I’d PP’d them to look how I wanted in SilkyPix Pro…
….so for me the question is more about how does C1E compare to the way that I personally preferred to make these images look?

For my opinion here, there’s a fair degree of win some/lose some between each pair… I am pleased that I worked a LOT less on the C1E edits and I’m encouraged that my working knowledge of C1E is embryonic, so I’ve the potential to get a lot better with it, while my experience with SilkyPix Pro is pretty good…
The SilkyPix images have a slightly flatter look, which one might perhaps associate with buzz words like organic and filmic, however the C1E images offer slightly more impact and are more vibrant.
There’s one thing that I am sure about, I’m sufficiently impressed by C1E that, when it comes to my X-Pro2 files, we’ll be spending quite some time together.
